The Dainese Energyca are positioning themselves as a starter sports shoe that can still almost pass as a sneaker. If anything, they do look like a pair of very aggressive sneakers, but either way, they’re going to be targeted at sport and sport-touring riders looking for something with a sneaker style mixed with a bit more high-end racing protection.

These urban shoes will be coming at a recommended retail price of about 160 Euros for the Dainese Energyca Air version and 180 for the waterproof Dainese Energyca DWP, and that’s about 180 and 200 US Dollars respectively.

So, they’ll be the sportier version of the Dainese York Sneakers and will also be competing with the Alpinestars Faster, Klim Blak Jak, and the Revit Mission Shoes.

The Dainese Energica Sneakers are made from a cowhide leather upper with additional suede leather panels on the sides of the shoes and around the top. For the air version of the shoe, the suede has been perforated to promote airflow while the DWP version is just a solid panel.

Both versions do include reflective inserts both on the outsides of the ankle and in the back of the shoe for extra visibility. The shoe also comes with a gear shifter guard and it comes in both men’s and women’s versions.

For protection, the shoes will be giving more than your basic Dainese sneaker, and both are certified to CE Cat. II EN 13634 standard o ensure an excellent level of protection. This shoe includes TPR inserts around the toe in addition to the fully reinforced TPU heel structure in the back. You can also see how on both versions of the shoe, this structure itself comes with holes in it to let any hot air in the shoe out.

Lastly, the Dainese shoe also comes with rigid inserts on the ankles as a standard piece of protection.

As far as weatherproofing, you get the option of the Air or the D-WP version of the shoe.

So, again, the perforated Dainese Energyca Boot has holes on the inside and the outside of the shoe to encourage comfort and ventilation while the waterproof version will only give the vent from the heel. To further improve the shoe’s waterproofing, it also comes with a neoprene gaiter at the top to keep water from dripping down the back. The sole is a multi-grip outsole, and it is fairly flexible to make them comfortable for walking around.

To get into the shoes, you first have a Velcro strap around the ankle and then standard shoelaces. The Velcro is a nice touch since it will give the shoes extra security and help stop the laces from untying too easily or catching. Once those are untied, you’ve got standard sneaker mesh to help with airflow around your shoe. However, the waterproof versions of the shoe will naturally be hotter.

Lastly, you do have an entry assist loop at the back and there is a high-grip TPU insert in the inside of the heel.
