The Dainese Tempest 2 D-Dry Pants are taking over from the already reliable, well-respected Dainese Tempest D-Dry pants and there have been some major new updates. Nonetheless, the basic focus of these pants has not changed, they are still for cooler and wetter weather with their D-Dry waterproof construction and thermal layer, but they are not designed for hot summer riding.
The Dainese Tempest 2 DDry are coming at a recommended retail price of 230 Euros, or about 250 US Dollars, which is decent as far as full touring and commuting pants go. At this price point the Dainese Tempest 2 D-Dry Trousers will also be competing with the Alpinestars Valparaiso V3 and the Revit Tornado 3 Pants.
Dainese have substantially changed these motorcycle pants in terms of outer shell and material. Where the previous Tempest DDry pants were made of Duratex fabric, the Tempest 2 D-Dry are now mainly made of Cordura construction combined with the same D-Dry membrane.
The Dainese Tempest II D-Dry Pants also come with additional D-Stone fabric inserts on high impact areas. So, both are tough and abrasion resistant materials that you often also see being used in gear from middle or even upper segments. The pants also come with reflective inserts in the sides for better visibility.
For safety, the Dainese pants are going to give you the same high-quality basics that form the essential Dainese safety standards. They have also been prEN 17092 certified. But for hard protection, the pants come with a pocket for hip protectors and removable composite protectors in the knees. These protectors tough and EN certified and will run from the knee down to the shin thanks to additional articulation in the armor.
Though the protectors are not adjustable, the pants also can be zipped and they match perfectly with the Dainese Tempest 2 D-Dry Jacket.
For comfort, the Dainese Tempest 2 DDry Trousers will cover the basics. They will keep you warm and dry when you need it and that’s really all you can ask for. The thermal layer in these pants is removable though for when you ride in warmer weather in the spring or fall. They will not be particularly good for summer since the zippered vents on the thighs will only feed air into the pants’ liner, and not directly to your legs.
For fastening, the pants have a button and fly at the top alongside two Velcro waist adjusters on either side. This is a nice and simple way to make sure you get the pants to fit well and comfortably. To make it easier to put the pants on over your boots, you also get a zipper and a gusset to open the leg a fair amount.
Overall, the Tempest 2 D-Dry pants are going to be simple and toned down, but they get the job done. For those seeking road touring experience in varied weather conditions, these waterproof pants form the ideal garment to live every road touring adventure to the fullest.
