Product description Schuberth C4 Pro Helmet Matt Black
Schuberth has released the successor to the Schuberth C4 helmet, the schuberth C4 Pro. It is a modular helmet meant for touring riders looking for the best quality available. At first sight the C4 Pro doesn’t show any big changes to the original C4. But nothing is less true. This flip up helmet has been improved on many points, some of which had caused difficulties with C4 modular helmet. Some of the issues we experienced with the previous model, was the home made anti-fog lens. This was by far the most common warranty issue with the C4 at Champion Helmets. No big trouble, because the customers simply got a new pinlock and problem solved. But some of the other issue were less easy to solve. The ventilation clip on the chin bar sometimes also let loose. Schuberth responded very well on these issues. But before we jump into what's new about it, it is good to mention where the new C4 is positioned. The Schuberth C-4 Pro is a very high-end modular helmet. The best comparison could be made with its all time-rival the Shoei Neotec 2. The last 10 years the market of Flip-Up helmets has pretty much been dominated by Shoei and Schuberth. But there is a serious challenger in the form of AGV Sportmodular. But unlike Shoei and Schuberth, AGV hasn't really earned its stripes in that modular helmet market just yet. So that leaves the Shoei Neotec 2 as the strongest challenger of the Schuberth C4 Pro. It doesn't get much better than these two basically. But one should ask himself if all these luxurious features and benefits are something you really need from a motorcycle helmet? There are some pretty good helmets in the mid-range category such as HJC RPHA90, Shark Evo-One 2 and the Roof Boxxer Carbon which will give you that same high-end taste but for a much more affordable price. They also with comfortable fit and integrated sun shield and stuff like that. But not quite just like the Neotec 2 and the Schuberth C4.
Difference: Schuberth C4 Pro vs. C4
Schuberth has had a long history in modular helmets. Especially the C3 Pro has been dominating the marketing for quite some time. Then came the Schuberth C4 and since december 2018 they announced the brand new Schuberth C4 Pro. Watch the full Video Schuberth C4 Pro Review to see the visual difference. As far as safety is concerned, the C4 was already a high quality helmet and they kept it that way with the C4 Pro. In terms of ease of use and comfort, some things have been improved. The greatest change is to the inner liner that helps reduce the noise level. Both cheek pads and top liner have been made from a velvet-like material, which feels comfortable to wear. At Schuberth, they have taken feedback from their riders very seriously in developing the C4 Pro. One of the other big changes was the position of the microphone. With the Schuberth C4 the microphone of the sena sc1 communication system was positioned at the top of the helmet at the fore head and now they have integrated the microphone in the cheek pad. This makes the sound cleaner with less wind noise. Something really noticeable when trying them out both. Another change was the housing of the Sena communication system and battery. The sena intercom and battery were actually somewhat loose in the housing and this could give some vibration and annoying noise with the old C4. This is completely solved with the C4 Pro, because both sit in more firmly. Schuberth also changed the ventilation covers which in some cases let loose after a while. They made them more firm and very hard to break. All though the issue with the original C4 was mainly with the vent cover on the chin guard, they also strengthened the cover of the top vent. And another thing you may want to hear is that they lowered the price by 50 euro. One of the complaints we receive regularly from touring riders is that they are genuinely interested in modular helmets like the Neotec 2 and the C4 but the price is just slightly over the budget they are willing to spend. We guess Schuberth listened to this and tried to approach the top of the mig-range helmets.
The safety of the C4 Pro is of a high level, as we can expect, from experience with the C4. The shell was created using Schuberth's DFP (Direct Fiber Processing) technology. With this technology the helmet shell is produced under high pressure in 3 different sizes. The helmet is made of Fiber glass or carbon fiber, depending on the model you choose. The shell is shock-resistant, durable and consists largely of fiberglass. The EPS inner shell consists of multiple densities of EPS. This gives optimal impact absorption. The improvement here is that the inside shape is now a round fit just like the C3 pro. Compared to the predecessor that is more oval. The big advantage is that the material used leads to a super lightweight helmet, especially for a modular helmet.
Modular helmets are known for being noisy. The schuberth C4 Pro is the exception to the rule here. It is one of the quietest modular helmets out there, if it is not the quietest. It has been extensively tested in schuberth’s wind tunnels and it has perfect aerodynamics which contributes a lot to the stability and silence in the helmet. This is where the earlier mentioned Top 3 really sets themselves apart from the mid-range. There is nothing better than a helmet that completely closing you from your surroundings, whether it's wind noise or vibrations from the communication compartments, it was fully eliminated in the C4 Pro. We have to mention that this level of noise insulation becomes especially needed when making longer trips. If you only ride in the summer, and mainly on a nice sunday you should re-consider if you really need this. Because it does come with a price-tag. If you don't want to compromise on noise, then the mid-range may be just a little too noisy.
The ventilation in the C4 was already exceptionally good, but as described before the vent covers left something to be desired. They have taken a good look at this issue at Schuberth and they have come with a new vent cover in the chin part and on top of the helmet. These closures on the C4 Pro are stronger and more stable than with the original C4. We received a few requests over the years to replace this vent cover so it is quite a recognisable issue. Schuberth responded well on rider feedback and solved this. The air inlets on the chin and on top of the helmet can be operated with glove friendly push buttons on the chin and a slide on top of the helmet.
The Schuberth C4 Pro visor has a wide field of vision. The pinlock visor is scratch-resistant and anti-fog. The visor mechanism is well made. Here you can watch the video how to replace the visor of the Schuberth C4 Pro. The helmet comes with a standard clear visor. With the C4, the Schuberth house brand pinlock sometimes caused problems. With the Schuberth C4 Pro they switched to the original Pinlock anti fog insert to prevent the problems that the old C4 was experiencing with the home made extra large anti fog lens. The c4 pro comes with an integrated sun visor that is easy to operate with a gloved hand.
The renewed lining of the Schuberth C4 Pro is not only very comfortable and soft but also a treat for the eye. Probably this is still one of the biggest improvements compared to the old C4. The beautiful soft lining is removable and washable. It certainly also contributes to noise reduction in the helmet. The lining quickly absorbs moisture and also dries quickly.
Sena SC1 Communication System
Optionally available is the dedicated Sena SC1 communication system. The C4 Pro already comes with integrated speakers and microphone, so basically the only thing you have to do is plug in the module and battery and you are good to go. Bra service och snabb leverans. Hjälmen är kanon, säkert bland det bästa man kan köpa. Jag hade föregångaren och var nöjd även med den men känner att denna är snäppet bättre på många punkter.
This company is very efficient, responsive and prices are unbeatable. Quickly assisted me on getting fixed a product selection mistake that I've made and that is a BIG PLUS when dealing with online sales! Hats off Champion Helmets!
It Is Awesome. i really like the small shell and the fit is so great comparing to the Icon Airflite. i got it with the Sena com. such a great price.
Originally I ordered a helmet in black and grey. But tell me in such an option helmets sold out and offered a choice. As many as three options, including not only a refund, but also a "compliment" of 25 €. I decided to wait, but then I picked a black matte. Helmet, after clarifying the order came very quickly, before it returned the difference in price. The guys work great.
Absolute aanrader!
Great quality modular helmet if you are riding a lot like I do. Feels better than my old shoei and you really feel the difference with all its high-end features. Made a great deal using the Champion Cash.
